As part of our project's values based on sustainability and creativity, we wanted to close the year by putting a simple idea into practice: transforming waste into something new and meaningful.

We closed 2025 with a team meeting (but not just any meeting!).
Staying true to our project values, we spent part of the afternoon creating DIY decorations from recycled materials, reflecting on the past months and planning for the weeks ahead before the holidays. With snacks, Christmas carols, and plenty of creativity, we learned how to make these sustainably-concious ornaments; a small but meaningful example of upcycling in practice.
Although it may seem complicated, it's a simple process, especially if you do it patiently and enjoy a good conversation with your team!
For this DIY project, you only need a recycled tomato paste tube, which you should open and carefully flatten. We used a spoon, but any object that can be used to flatten will work perfectly. You'll also need a pen to draw the shape of your ornament and highlight the relief, and finally, scissors. Just be careful when cutting; the edges can be sharp!
In our team there were ornaments of all kinds: from purely Christmas designs to others inspired by human anatomy (that's what happens when you have so many doctors in the project). This is one of the many ways to transform what at first glance appears to be waste into something beautiful. At the Upcycled Clinic Project, we're ending the year by reusing, which is our way of innovating.
