Faced with the trend of buying high-fidelity mannequins and exorbitantly priced technologies -which are often unsustainable and only represent a standard body type "Clinical Tools: A DIY Catalogue for the Creative" has emerged.

The first issue of this catalogue is an ode to DIY in medical education. It is edited by students (Giuliana Brancaleone and Nyah Costa) with a professor of Medicine and Anthropology at Maastricht University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (Anna Harris), with European Research Council (ERC) funding and EDLAB – Maastricht University Centre for Teaching & Learning funding also awarded to Emmaline Brouwer and Marijke Kruithof, and in collaboration with universities from various countries. Our catalogue aims to encourage a rethinking of plastic use and a commitment to vegan, organic, or recycled materials. It proposes accessible solutions for everyone, with a realistic representation of bodies, all achieved through pure ingenuity. Ideas like using ping-pong balls to practice using an ophthalmoscope or a banana as a suture simulator, are some of the examples featured in the catalog.

It's time to think outside the box. Medical education can be creative, inclusive, and environmentally friendly.
